MUMBAI: Three youths drowned off Aksa beach on Sunday morning as they ventured deep into the choppy waters during high tide. Officials attributed the tragedy to the youngsters' disregard of the warning signs on the beach, while eyewitnesses ascribed it partly to the presence of just one lifeguard on that section of the shore.

The three drowning victims—Darshan Dalvi, 23, Rakesh Nalawade, 22, and Mayuresh Naik, 21—were part of a group of nine Malad residents who had travelled to Aksa for a game of cricket.

Apart from the three college-goers , 25-year-old Sandesh Mungekar too had swum deep into the sea and got caught in the high tide, but a lifeguard saved him. Mungekar is currently recuperating at Bhagwati Hospital where doctors described his condition as stable.

The group of nine from Sable chawl in Rajan Pada, Malad (West), reached the beach around 8am. After their cricket game concluded at 9.30am, the youths washed sand off their hands and feet in thesea, undressedandtheneightof them re-entered the water for a swim. One youth guarded the clothes.

"Sandesh, Darshan, Rakesh and Mayuresh swam in deeper. They were good swimmers. But the water level started rising rapidly. Before we could realize, the four were gasping for breath. We saw them waving as they got sucked in deeper ," said Nilesh Mungekar, Sandesh's older brother who too was part of the group. "We raised an alarm and a lifeguard at the beach dove in. Sandesh managed to hang on till the lifeguard reached him. The others were not so lucky."

A few locals, including a food stall owner, joined the lifeguard in the rescue. "We swam towards the boys and managed to catch hold of two of them. But a huge wave hit us and our grip loosened," said Praful Mhatre, the food stall owner.

Witnesses called in the fire brigade, which launched a search operation soon after. Darshan's body was pulled out first, followed by Mayuresh's and finally Rakesh's . The operation lasted from 10am to 2pm. The Malwani police have registered three accidental death records.

Rajnikanth Mhashelkar, a senior lifeguard at Aksa beach, said, "It is a Herculean task to man the beach on weekends since the number of visitors is very high. Children arrive early to play; they step into the water despite our warnings. We cannot do much." He added that their equipment was insufficient. "We have a pair of binoculars, five life jackets and six buoys. Just five to six lifeguards man the three-kilometre stretch of the beach."

Iran quake kills 34 in Pak, felt in India, Gulf states

Tuesday, Apr 16, 2013, 18:50 IST | Place: Dubai | Agency: AP/PTI

A 7.8 magnitude earthquake today struck Iran--the strongest to hit the country in 40 years--killing 34 in a border region in Pakistan which bore the brunt and unleashed tremors in northwest India and Gulf Arab states.

There was no official word on any casualties in Iran in the second powerful quake in a week.

Iranian state TV initially said at least 40 people were killed in Iran but it had no official confirmation, as conflicting reports on casualties emerged from that country.
There were reports at least 100 people were feared killed while some said there were only reports of injuries.

In India, the tremors shook north India and Gujarat at 4.14 pm pulling panic-stricken people out of their homes and offices, hours after two smaller tremors jolted Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Odisha, leaving a child dead in a mudsling in Assam.

There were no immediate reports of any damage or casualty in the tremors in India caused by the powerful quake centred near Saravan, a remote and sparsely populated mountainous region area about 48 km from the Pakistani border.

The US Geological Survey put the preliminary magnitude at 7.8 and at a depth of 15.2 km.

Nuclear plants in Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan remained unaffected by the earthquake, Nalinish Nagaich, Executive Director, Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) told PTI in Delhi.

"I was inside my office in Connaught Place. I felt the chair trembling and rushed out of office," said Priya Dev, a chartered accountant in Delhi where buildings swayed.

The quake struck less than a week after a 6.1 magnitude quake hit near Bushehr, on Iran's Persian Gulf coast, killing at least 37 people.

In Pakistan, the 34 deaths were recorded in the remote Panjgur and Kharan districts of Balochistan, TV news channels quoted officials as saying.

Eight children and two women were among the dead.

The Mashkel area was hit hardest by the quake and hundreds of homes were destroyed or damaged in the affected regions, reports said.

In Karachi, several persons were injured when a building collapsed.

Geo News reported that urban centres of Karachi, Hyderabad, Quetta, Abbottabad, Islamabad and Lahore were also jolted.

The quake was also felt in the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. It shook buildings and there were reports that high-rise offices were evacuated in Abu Dhabi.

London: The Iranian authorities have planned to launch their own 3D mapping service that would rival Google Earth, which Tehran claims is a tool for western spy agencies.

Mohammad Hassan Nami, announced that his country was developing what he described as an "Islamic Google Earth" to be called Basir.

According to Nami, the 'Islamic competitor' of Google Earth will be ready for use "within the next four months", the Guardian reports.

He added that preparations have been made for launching the world's 3D map project and Iran is currently creating an appropriate data centre which could be capable of processing this volume of information.

Iran has often looked at western web services with a great deal of suspicion.

Other Iranian officials have echoed Nami in making similar accusations against Google, the paper said.

Iran's police chief, Esmail Ahmadi Moghaddam, said last year that it was not a search engine but "a spying too," it added

New Delhi: A government agency has approached Delhi Police with a complaint against search-engine Google, raising security concerns after the Internet major conducted 'Mapathon' - a contest that asked users to add information about their local areas for its online map services.

Survey of India filed the complaint with Delhi Police on March 25, a senior police official in New Delhi on Friday.

"We have received a complaint. As of now, no case has been registered. We will inquire into it and will forward it to the cyber wing of Economic Offences Wing," he said.

In its complaint, Survey of India said the contest was likely to jeopardise national security interest and violates the National Map Policy.

When approached for a reaction, Google spokesperson said relevant Indian authorities, including the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Surveyor General of India, have been briefed on 'Map Maker', which complies with all applicable laws.

'Map Maker' was launched in India in 2008 with the goal of making more information accessible to all, by allowing people to add information about local places to Google Maps.

'Mapathon', which ran from February 12 to March 25, was a contest encouraging Indians to use 'Map Maker'.

"We take security and national regulations very seriously and we are open to discussing specific concerns with public authorities and officials," the spokesperson said.

Expectant mothers who drink two cups of coffee a day, are more likely to have babies with lower birth weight, researchers have claimed.

Researchers at Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg, Sweden, conducted a study on 59,000 women in collaboration with the Norwegian Institute of Public Health.

“The correlation between intake of caffeine and fetal growth was established even among women who followed the official recommendation that they limit caffeine consumption to 200 milligrams a day (two cups of coffee),” researcher Verena Sengpiel said.

The medical term used in this connection is “small for gestational age” (SGA), which is associated with an elevated risk of morbidity and death.

The new results are consistent with previous international studies but are based on a considerably larger cohort.

The participants were healthy and had uncomplicated pregnancies until delivery, while the results were adjusted for age, smoking, body mass index, nicotine consumption, alcohol use and other variables that affect fetal growth.

“We need to stress that our study did not examine whether caffeine is the specific mechanism substance by which responsible for the fetus is being at greater risk of low birth weight,” Sengpiel said.

“Nor did we look at whether these babies actually had special health problems during the neonatal period. Additional research is needed before we can say for sure what our finding actually means for pregnant women and their babies,” she added.

The other purpose of the study was to determine whether women who consumed caffeine during pregnancy were more likely to give birth prematurely. Such a correlation could not be established.

The research team is hoping to conduct more in-depth studies about the cause-effect relationship between caffeine use and SGA, as well as any correlation between SGA and neonatal morbidity and death.

The study is set to be published in the journal BMC Medicine.

Mumbai: It's summer and the heat has already started to soar making us all sweat and feel sticky. Stepping out of the house makes us fell irritable and cranky. Here are 5 things you can do to stay fresh and cool this summer.

1. Drink lots of fluids and liquids

Drinking water and liquids like juices, coconut water and milkshakes help maintain the water content in the body and keeps you healthy and cool.

During summers the water loss is the body is high as the heat causes the body to emit a lot of sweat which leads to water and fluids from the body getting evaporated.

Water content in the body is managed well if one drinks a lot of liquids.

2. Take a cool summer cut

Taking a new shorter hair cut during summer helps one feel fresh and cool. If one doesn't want shorter hair tying hair in a ponytail or bun is good way to beat the heat.

Sweating leads hair to get sticky and smelly which adds to the irritability. The cool hair cut or hair style helps one feel more confident and makes the irritation level lower.

3. Use wet wipes or wash face regularly

Continuous sweating leads to a sticky face and neck which adds to the irritability faced by many during summers. Using wet wipes helps make the face moisturised and non-sticky.

The freshness of a sweet smelling wet wipe brand makes it better for people to feel fresh when they are unable to wash their face regularly.

Washing the face makes the cells of the face get refreshed and is the simplest and best way to beat the heat.

4. Use sunscreen and carry an umbrella

The summer sun and heat can cause sun strokes, using a sunscreen helps prevent the skin from getting tanned and helps keep it healthy.

Carrying an umbrella helps prevent the strain of the sun from causing strokes, fatigue and palpitation.

Now, you can bank on netbanking

http://www.dnaindia.com/mobile/report.php?n=1809661

Mumbai: Nationalised banks have started taking precautionary measures to ensure that people don’t lose their money through netbanking fraud. The measures were taken after Rs1 crore was transferred from an account with a nationalised bank to various accounts in 45 minutes using National Electronic Funds Transfer (NEFT).

According to the police, every bank has its own system pertaining to NEFT. Some banks give a lag period of 24 hours to the customer (account holder) after s/he transfers funds to the beneficiary’s account. During these 24 hours, the account holder is sent an SMS on her/his registered mobile number through which s/he knows the status of her/his fund transfer. In case of any foul play, the account holder can approach the bank authorities and, subsequently, the police to report the matter.

Some banks, however, allow funds to reach the beneficiary’s account as soon as the transfer is made. Netbanking frauds are usually committed in the latter case, a police officer added.

A spokesperson of a nationalised bank said, “Earlier, we allowed funds to reach the beneficiaries’ accounts immediately after the transfer. However, after this incident, we have changed it. We now give a lag period of 24 hours to our account holders during which they can cancel the transaction.
In case of an emergency, only Rs50,000 can be transferred using Immediate Money Transfer.”
The spokesperson added that the mechanisms used by banks keep changing due to pressure and dynamics.

The netbanking fraud occurred on January 31 between 9.15am and 10am. It only came to light when an employee of the company, to which the account belonged, tried to log in and found that it was blocked. After informing the company’s director, officials used a secondary username and password to login only to find that Rs1 crore had been transferred into 12 different accounts. The matter was then reported to the Mulund police.

While the police managed to block the account in which more than Rs60 lakh was transferred, the remaining was withdrawn by the accused. In the following few days, the Mulund police arrested 16 people involved in the crime, including a Delhi resident. Many more arrests are likely in the case.

http://www.dnaindia.com/mobile/report.php?n=1807119

Chicago: A baby girl in Mississippi who was born with HIV has been cured after very early treatment with standard drug therapy, US researchers reported on Sunday, in a potentially ground-breaking case that could offer insights on how to eradicate HIV infection in its youngest victims.

The child's story is the first account of an infant achieving a so-called functional cure, a rare event in which a person achieves remission without the need for drugs and standard blood tests show no signs that the virus is making copies of itself.

More testing needs to be done to see if the treatment would have the same effect on other children, but the results could change the way high-risk babies are treated and possibly lead to a cure for children with HIV, the virus that causes AIDS.

"This is a proof of concept that HIV can be potentially curable in infants," said Dr Deborah Persaud, a virologist at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, who presented the findings at the Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections in Atlanta.

The child's story is different from the now famous case of Timothy Ray Brown, the so-called "Berlin patient," whose HIV infection was completely eradicated through an elaborate treatment for leukemia in 2007 that involved the destruction of his immune system and a stem cell transplant from a donor with a rare genetic mutation that resists HIV infection.

Instead of Brown's costly treatment, the Mississippi baby's case involved the use of a cocktail of widely available drugs already used to treat HIV infection in infants. When the baby girl was born in a rural hospital, her mother had just tested positive for HIV infection.

Because her mother had not received any prenatal HIV treatment, doctors knew the child was born at high risk of being infected. So they transferred the baby to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, where she came under the care of Dr Hannah Gay, a pediatric HIV specialist.

Because of her high infection risk, Dr Gay put the infant on a cocktail of three standard HIV-fighting drugs when she was just 30 hours old, even before lab tests came back confirming her infection. In more typical pregnancies when an HIV-infected mother has been given drugs to reduce the risk of transmission to her child, the baby would only have been given a single drug to reduce her infection risk.

Mumbai: Call 103 and get a cop at your doorstep in 10 minutes. Well, this helpline number service for women, senior citizens and children has been around since 2008, but very few people know about it.

If you think that you were the only one who did not know about the helpline, then you are mistaken. A few months ago, two IPS officers were talking to a renowned Indian theatre personality and ad filmmaker. During the conversation, the ad filmmaker started criticising the police about their inefficiency to deal with the increasing number of crimes against women. “We told them about the 103 helpline number. He called the number and told the telephone operator that his daughter was being eve-teased and gave the address. Within 10 minutes, a police team reached the spot,” an IPS officer said.

The helpline service was first started in Thane in 2007. The Mumbai police started this service on February 28, 2008. In March 2010, the helpline number was functional across Maharashtra. “The Mumbai police is taking special efforts to ensure safety of women. After the Delhi gang rape case, it is necessary to deal with the culprits properly,” said Krishna Prakash, additional commissioner of police (South).

Mumbai: Soon, citizens will be saved the trouble of running from pillar to post to obtain certificates. The state government plans to allow citizens to apply online for birth and death certificates, as well as marriage and income certificates, besides several others.

A formal notification to this effect will be issued soon. The state information technology department has asked other departments — Education, Food and Civil Supplies, General Administration, etc — to provide them with a list of documents or certificates which can be offered online.

The departments have also been asked to provide a time frame within which the document/certificate will be delivered, and mention whether any particular service would require the presence of the person to obtain the certificates.

If the plan is put into action, citizens will no longer have to keep going to the Tehsildar or Talati’s office to obtain certificates.

“These steps are long overdue. Citizens spend a lot of time doing the rounds of government offices. Besides, in some cases, they spend money on agents to get the certificates or documents faster from a particular official. The online process will be simple and ensure that citizens get their documents sitting at home,” said an official.

Mumbai: The management of a Malad-based franchise of a popular chain of preschools has helped the parents of a three-year-old child, who was allegedly molested in the school bus, to file a case against the bus cleaner.

A spokesperson for the school said, “It is an unfortunate incident. We have a lady attendant who takes care of kids throughout. In this case, the cleaner and the lady attendant were both handed over to the police for questioning immediately.”

Saying that they are happy that the child cried foul, she added, “This is the only way for us to know, so we can isolate and discipline the miscreants whom the children call ‘uncle’ and ‘bhaiyya’.”

She also said that this was not an isolated incident, and that the more and more children are falling prey to perverts, which is disturbing. “That apart, child transport is becoming as much an everyday horror for schools as it is for parents,” she added.

The school has also added that several steps will be taken to ensure that such incidents don’t take place again in the future.

“We do not want to make tall promises. But we have evaluated the situation and will be issuing a statement in the next two days on what steps and actions we will be taking to ensure kids don’t go through such trauma,” the spokesperson said.

The school has come out with awareness programmes for the children, so they can differentiate between “good” touch and “bad” touch.

The management refused to go into the case in depth, as it is still being investigated by the police.

Mumbai: Before imposing the capital value-based property tax system, the BMC has failed to carry out several necessary surveys. All individual properties, which would come under the property tax net, had to be surveyed and measured but the civic body chose not to go through the exhaustive process. Instead, they simply used old details from its records for new tax bills. This has given rise to a lot of discrepancies.

“The kind of complaints and objections we are receiving now clearly shows that the issue needed much attention rather than such an haphazard implementation. Square feet area of several house units are not accurate in the bills. There are also issues of ownership and tenancy,” said a senior civic official. Officials added that the BMC found surveying each and every property not only a tedious task, but also an expensive one.

However, Rajiv Jalota, additional municipal commissioner, said each complaint will be looked into till the owner is satisfied.

“We have taken all the details from the old records and are rectifying them as and when we come across any anomaly. Citizens need not worry,” Jalota added.

Mumbai: Appealing for calm and cooperation, Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan Wednesday said the incident of the three minor sisters who went missing and were later found raped and murdered was "extremely deplorable and painful".

"The incident is extremely deplorable and painful. I appeal to the people to maintain calm and cooperate with the law-enforcers," Chavan said in a statement.

Chavan also announced ex-gratia relief of Rs10 lakh to the family of three minor sisters, who went missing, and later found raped, murdered and their bodies dumped in a well in Bhandara district, about 65 km from Nagpur, the state's second capital in eastern Maharashtra.

Home Minister RR Patil had earlier announced the suspension of Prakash Munde, chief of the Lakhni police station, under whose jurisdiction the crime was committed.

The girls -- aged 6, 9 and 11 -- were subjected to unnatural sex, according to an autopsy. A manhunt has been launched against the unknown perpetrators.

Police have formed 12 special teams to probe the crime, which left union Heavy Industries Minister Praful Patel visibly stunned Tuesday after he visited the mother of the three girls at her home in Lakhni village, around 115 km from Bhandara town.

"As a father of three daughters, I am appalled at the atrocity committed on these girls. I have raised the matter with the chief minister to ensure financial assistance to the widow, speedy investigation and a fast track trial of the accused," Patel said.

According to officials, the three girls did not return from school last Thursday (Feb 14) and their mother lodged a missing complaint at the Lakhni police station.

Two days later, some villagers discovered their brutalised bodies from a well near Murmadi, around three kilometres from their village, following which the local police registered a case of 'accidental death'.

It was only after the villagers took to the streets, blocked traffic and protested outside the police station that a case of murder, kidnapping and rape was lodged.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan's minority Shia Hazara community on Monday refused to bury victims of a devastating bombing in Quetta that claimed 89 lives till the army takes control of the southwestern city to prevent terror attacks.

Thousands of Shias joined a protest with the bodies of some of the 89 people killed in Saturday's attack at Hazara Town in Quetta, the capital of the restive Balochistan province.

The banned Lashkar-e-Jhangvi claimed responsibility for the bombing.

A bomb containing hundreds of kilogrammes of explosives ripped through a crowded market in Hazara Town on Saturday.

Many women and children were among the dead. About 200 people were injured by the blast, which flattened several buildings. The death toll in the attack went up to 89 on Monday after four more people succumbed to their injuries.

Leaders of the Shia Hazara community, which has been repeatedly targeted by sectarian groups like the LeJ, gave the government a 48-hour ultimatum to launch an army operation against terrorists.

They accused elements of the security establishment of sheltering the militants.

Quetta police chief Wazir Khan Nasir said officials were engaged in negotiations with the Shia leaders to convince them to bury their dead.

However, Shia leader Qayyum Changezi said the protesters would not bury the dead "until a targeted operation is launched" against terrorists.

Syed Muhammad Hadi, a spokesman for an alliance of Shia groups, said the community wanted security in Quetta to be handed over to the army and targeted operations against terrorists and their supporters.

Pakistan's biggest city and financial hub Karachi was paralysed on Monday after a series of sit-ins by Shia groups and incidents of violence in several areas to protest the deadly bomb attack in Quetta. Police and rangers had to resort to shelling and water cannons in some areas.

Meanwhile, a large number of Shias, including women and children, also refused to end their sit-in outside Governor's House in Lahore against the killing of Shia Hazaras in Quetta.

The protesters said their agitation would continue till security in Quetta was handed over to the army.

“Around 300 operators have been blacklisted in Mumbai,” said Ajay Bhushan Pandey, Deputy Director General, UIDAI, adding that this had been done because of complaints regarding money being sought from applicants, proliferation of agents at centres, irregularities and quality issues.

Operators were also being suspended and police action was being taken in appropriate cases. “We have a zero tolerance on this,” said Pandey, adding that even FIRs had been filed in some cases. He pointed out that the Aadhaar registration was done free of cost.
Pandey said the blacklisted operators would be “removed from the Aadhaar ecosystem” to ensure that they would not be able to work on the project in other states.

Also, with citizens crowding registration centres, Pandey said they would enrol LPG consumers and scholarship holders in Mumbai and Pune on priority basis till March 15.

The LPG connection holders in five districts — Mumbai, Pune, Amravati, Wardha and Nandurbar — are supposed to enrol for Aadhaar and give their UIDAI numbers to their gas agency by March 15 for the direct transfer of subsidy into bank accounts failing which, they may need to purchase cylinders at market prices.

He requested people who were not covered by these schemes to wait and get enrolled as per their convenience by December 2013 and pointed out that the registration was a continuous process with the state due to have 2,000 permanent centres forever.

Mumbai: In a recent case of online fraud, a conman transferred Rs1.75 lakh from the account of a Kandivli resident to his own after blocking his mobile number and activating it in a blank SIM card. This the culprit did to stop an SMS alert going to the victim about the transaction.

Chinmay Das lodged a complaint at the Samta Nagar police station a month ago alleging an unknown person blocked his SIM card in connivance with the telecom service provider and transferred the money from his account into his own.

Das said he called his bank but the officials there told him that the money had already been transferred to accounts in UP and Rajasthan.

“The fraudster opened several accounts with fake documents. We got a few addresses and tracked down some of the people in whose names accounts had been opened. They weren’t even aware of it. Some of them were daily-wage labourers who can’t even read and write,” said inspector LG Shinde.

“We also found a link of foreign national who was living in a hotel at Delhi. A police team went there and found he had already left the country. It’s not clear if he was involved or someone used his documents.”

What is acidity? :

Acidity can be explained as the discomfort that occurs in the stomach and makes on one feels. The food we eat has to be digested properly for that our body secrets hydrochloric acids (HCL). In certain cases the amount of acid secreted by our body will be high and the excess acid after digestion will be left behind and creates discomfort and irritation. It is not a contagious disease.

Gas trouble is caused due to the air we swallow or due to irregular meal intakes. Actually acidity causes gas trouble. .

Is acidity and gastric problems/gas trouble the same?

No, both are not the same. Acidity is due to the excess release of acid in our body an due to the consumption of food rich in acid content. Whereas gastric problems are caused due to acidity. But the preventive methods for both acidity and gas trouble are the same.

Symptoms of acidity and gastric problems :

How to get rid off acidity?

Acidity is a disease that has to be treated or else it will lead to various other diseases. To a certain extent, by changing our daily routine and habits, acidity can be controlled. Try the below steps and only if it is not effective, consult a doctor.

  1. In today's world, most of us are engaged in office jobs, henceforth our body hardly moves. Gradually we become lazy but this has lot of side effects. Gas trouble is one and the most prominent among them. Therefore we need to do daily exercises for our body to get sufficient movements. It is advisable to do exercises in the open air and preferably at the same time every day. But never undertake exercises that are too heavy for you or very light in nature. Always choose the one you are comfortable with. If you are a little aged, then I would suggest walking as the best exercise.

  1. Another thing you have to make a note of is, avoid drinking water along with your meals. This causes acidity. Always make it a habit to either drink water one hour prior to your meal or one hour after your meal. Drink lots of water, it's always good for you and helps with digestion

  1. Give proper time for the food to be digested, therefore avoid going to bed as soon as you have finished your meals. Do some light activities such as chatting, watching TV, listening to music or so for an hour or two. This gives your body ample time to digest the food you have eaten. After that you can have a sound sleep.

  1. Always make it a habit to eat slowly and to properly chew the food you are eating. You have to be extra careful while eating non-vegetarian food items. Never be in a hurry, instead take time and eat.

  1. Skipping your breakfast or any other meals is one of the reason why people get acidity, therefore never skip a meal and always take your meals in proper time as irregular meals also will lead to these problems. Never eat late night or sit hungry for too long. This will lead to gas formation in your stomach.

  1. Include lot of fiber rich food in your daily diet so that your bowels movements will be proper.

  1. Avoid taking bulky meals especially during dinner. Digestion process is slow at night.

  1. Stress is another reason for having acidity. Today everyone seems to be stressed either at work or at home and this gives us lot of diseases in return. Hence we should be able to reduce or control our stress level and also to divert our mind from the factors causing stress.

  1. Practicing Yoga is also of great relief for people with acidity. Hero's pose is one of the yoga positions followed by acidic people.

Foods to be avoided :

By changing your eating habits also, you can get rid off acidity to some extent. Some foods that are to be avoided are onion, beans, cabbage, pea sprouts, potato, tapioca, chic peas, cauliflower, pickles and so on. Also try to avoid consuming raw vegetables and the vegetables that grow under the earth. Soft drinks that contain too much of carbohydrates are also not recommended for acidic people. They should also avoid foods that are rich in fat content and junk foods too. Smoking habits, intake of drugs and alcohol has to be given up completely if you wish to get rid of this irritating disease.

Foods to be included :

By adding certain foods into your daily diet, acidity can be controlled. Some of those foods include mint, garlic, ginger, carrots, more of fruits and raisins. Therefore try to consume more of these foods. Consuming tender coconut(Ilaneer) is very good for acidity.

Treatment and Medicines :

Allopathy, Homepathy and Ayurveda has medicines for acidity and gastric problems. Homepathy or Ayurveda is the best in this case as it gives a permanent relief even though the process is gradual and slow. For the timely relief, you can try consuming "Gelllusil" a very well known medicine to fight against acidity. Continuous consumption of certain Allopatheic medicines which we normally take in as pain-killers will lead to acidity.

Summary:

Many people these days have gastric and acidity problems. Here are some steps to get rid of these :
(a) Do proper exercise and make it a habit to do it every day preferably the same time. We all are into office jobs and our body hardly moves, this is one of the reason behind these kind of diseases. BMC tax payment portal gives users headache

BMC tax payment portal gives users headache

Mumbai: The civic body’s online tax payment portal that it announced last year does not seem to be working, with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) now saying that they are working on a new software to enable easier payments.

While the corporation introduced the online services to pay property and water tax bills, it is unable to to fix the technical glitches that citizens have been facing.

The BMC has started sending out the new property tax bills to citizens, asking them to make the payments before March 31. “You can now see long queues outside each BMC ward office because of this. I have been trying to use the online service for the last 10 days, but keeps showing ‘internal service error,’” a citizen said, adding that his complaint to the civic body five days ago has yet to see any action.

Other residents from Bandra and Khar also complained about the portal not being user-friendly. “The BMC is going high-tech by starting such online services, but the portal does not work most of the times and shows a server error. If the body is not able to provide the services effectively, why start such services in the first place?” an activist from Khar (W), Daphne Warapen asked.

Warapen added that she faces the problem even while trying to lodge complaints. “The online service is just an eyewash. At a time when the BMC is hiking various taxes, including the property tax, we are not getting anything in return,” she said.

The civic administration, however, said it is in the process of developing a new software for the new property tax system. “To pay the new property tax bills online, a new software application is being developed. Trials of the new software are being carried out and will be uploaded on the portal after we get satisfactory results,” additional municipal commissioner Rajiv Jalota said.

He is in charge of property tax in the civic body.

Citizens up ante over ‘irrational’ property tax
Terming the new property tax system irrational, citizens are planning to take to the streets to protest against the BMC implementation of the new property tax system. An activist from Khar (W), Daphne Warapen said, “We are planning to take our protest to the streets now. Area-wise groups will be formed to protest at local ward offices.”

Around 300 citizens from the city and its suburbs gathered at Khar (W) on Sunday to discuss their issues with the new property tax system. “Property tax is not levied on a majority of the slums; only the middle class is burdened with it,” said Godfrey Pimenta, who addressed the gathering.
